Working
with Syrup
To use syrup as a resist is one of the techniques I
love very much. The result is as unpredictable as salt and alchool. You are not able to visualize the final design until after you steam fix
the silk.
In some books that I read, the syrup is made from 250gr.
sugar and 1 litre water, but I like havier syrup to work with so I use 1
part, even more sugar to 1 part water. The result gives me more
satisfaction. I
put it in a jar and let rest one day. (photo 1)
I dop the syrup on to the framed
silk huphazardly with a sponge. I sometimes shake the sponge to make
drops. (photo 2 ve 3)
I spray the dye to the silk using a mouth atomizer.
If I spray the silk while the syrup is still wet the
result is different then after the syrup dries. (photo 4, 5 and 6)
You see here
a scarf that I used this technique.
